Personal Insights

What was your journey to the investment world and NPF specifically?
I started my journey in the financial sector in retail banking. As my family grew, I wanted to find something that gave me more time with my family. I landed at NPF through a mutual acquaintance that made the introduction.

What values do you live by?
I am a wife and a mother, but am ultimately beholden to my Creator. I have profound gratitude to my Creator and do my best to live both my professional and personal life to honor His sacrifice. I constantly tell my children: “You cannot control what your life will bring, but you can always control yourself and how you react to life’s unpredictable ways. So forget the excuses and victimhood – whatever your job is, do your best work and you will sleep well knowing you did your best.”

Interesting fact about your life story?
I was born in Korea and adopted as a baby by a very tall Dutch family. I was raised in Grand Rapids, MI and then moved away for college. Ultimately, I moved back to Grand Rapids to raise my own family.

What is your favorite …?
Movie: Meet the Robinsons (Disney) because the message is wonderful and has a special place in my heart as I was also left on an orphanage doorstep like the main character. “Keep Moving Forward!”
Book: The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein
Band: Zac Brown Band and pretty much all Classic Rock
Sport: Soccer. I also enjoy watching hockey and basketball. I like sports with constant action without too many breaks and downtime…..such as football/baseball Waitball.

Is there a person or experience that influenced you most?
My father. He taught me that hard work, self-discipline, accountability and a firm handshake are some of the qualities needed for work success. Meaningful relationships are built with compassion, patience and love. He also taught me that the world is huge and to get out and see it.

What is your favorite restaurant in Grand Rapids/West Michigan?
I love the SpeakEZ Lounge. It is a soccer bar/restaurant and will always have EPL games playing on all their tv’s. It’s a fun atmosphere for avid soccer nerds.

What is your most unique or fulfilling achievement outside of work?
On my 16th birthday, I moved to Germany for six months. I did not know a single word of German. I was placed in a tiny village and my host family spoke very little English. I completed a full German high school semester and came home speaking nearly fluent German.
