Personal Insights
What are the values that drive you in your professional and personal life?
I connect most with the “Parable of the Talents” (Matthew, Chapter 25). I believe I have been extraordinarily fortunate to have been born in America, to a good family, with talents that are exceptionally useful at this time in history. I have a strong and supportive family, and I work at the leading firm in West Michigan, surrounded by talented people. Every day, I wonder whether I have done all I can to make use of these blessings in a way that would please the One who gave them to me.
One word to describe you?
Unconventional
Where do you call home?
I grew up in the small town of Hopkins (between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo) –a great way to start my life, and a great foundation to keep me grounded. Now I’m a city slicker, living in the bustling suburb of Wyoming.
Favorite place in Grand Rapids?
The second-floor balcony overlooking the ballroom of the Pantlind Hotel.
Favorite music?
The type you’d expect to hear while getting your teeth cleaned at the dentist’s office. I love going to the dentist, and have created a playlist with hundreds of songs on it that remind me of going to the dentist’s office – a bedrock of 80’s adult contemporary, spiced up with some soul and R&B from the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s.
What do you do for fun?
I am a dedicated nerd and enjoy learning as much as I can about as many things as I can. Most recently, I have been studying foreign languages, calculus, and woodworking. I’ve also been known to change my own oil and disc brakes on my minivan.
